Pool vacuum gear diagram

Before you begin, there are four pieces of equipment you must have:

  • Vacuum Plate (in your skimmer box, above the basket to create suction)
  • Vacuum Hose (connects plate and head)
  • Vacuum Head (attaches onto the pole)
  • Pole (the one you use for your scoop)

Don’t know which vacuum plate fits your skimmer box?

Preparation (Media Filter)

  • Decide where to vacuum:
    • “Filter”: Sediment goes through media as normal. Backwash afterwards. Minimal water loss; not suited to heavy sediment or after using flocculant.
    • “Waste”: Debris bypasses media and drains straight to sewer. Top up pool beforehand (water level well above skimmer entry) to allow for loss.

Media filter valve positions

  1. Remove any cleaner, prime the vacuum hose (fill with water), connect hose to both plate in skimmer and the head on the other end.
  2. Turn multiport valve to WASTE, then switch pump on.
  3. Vacuum slowly across the floor until sediment is gone.
  4. Switch pump off, return valve to FILTER (while pump is off), remove vacuum equipment and top up water.
